It operates in two segments, Composite Materials and Engineered Products.

The Composite Materials segment manufactures and markets carbon fibers, fabrics and specialty reinforcements, prepregs and other fiber-reinforced matrix materials, structural adhesives, honeycomb, molding compounds, tooling materials, polyurethane systems, and laminates that are used in military and commercial aircraft, wind turbine blades, recreational products, and other industrial applications, as well as in cars, boats, and trains.

The Engineered Products segment manufactures and markets aircraft structures and finished aircraft components, including wing to body fairings, wing panels, flight deck panels, door liners, helicopter blades, spars, and tip caps; and aircraft structural sub-components and semi-finished components used in helicopter blades, engine nacelles, and aircraft surfaces, such as flaps, wings, elevators, and fairings, as well as HexTool tooling, which are mold tools used in the manufacture of composite aircraft structures.

The company sells its products directly through its sales personnel, as well as through independent distributors and manufacturer representatives in the Americas, Europe, the Asia Pacific, Russia, and Africa. 

On July 22, Hexcel (HXL) reported 2nd Quarter June 2019 earnings of $0.94 per share on revenue of $609.0 million. The consensus earnings estimate was $0.88 per share on revenue of $604.2 million. Revenue grew 11.2% on a year-over-year basis.

The company said it expects 2019 earnings of $3.43 to $3.53 per share continues to expect revenue of $2.375 billion to $2.475 billion. The company's previous guidance was earnings of $3.38 to $3.52 per share and the current consensus earnings estimate is $3.45 per share on revenue of $2.41 billion for the year ending December 31, 2019.

Shares are heading higher in an upward trading channel. The lower boundary of the said channel coincides with the stock's 50-day moving average. Shares are currently at the lower boundary of the channel.
