KALU | Hot Stocks17:18 EDT Kaiser Aluminum sees Q4 adjusted EBITDA margin similar to Q3 - "Although we had noted some inflationary costs pressures from rising freight, labor and material costs in the second quarter, during the third quarter conditions became increasingly challenging. In particular, continued constraints on labor availability, rapidly rising material and inflationary costs and supply chain challenges reduced the efficiency in our facilities and shipments resulting in an approximately $13M impact to adjusted EBITDA. These costs partially offset by approximately $5M of lower corporate overhead, incentive, and other costs led to further compression on adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 200 basis points compared to the second quarter 2021. "Our operations and commercial teams have been working on mitigating the impact of these factors, and we are aggressively passing through additional costs in our transactional business through price increases and to our contract customers through provisions included in our supply agreements. Where our agreements provide a pathway to address certain higher costs through price increases, there is often a lag affect that can impact the timing of when these price increases become effective. With respect to labor, we have significantly improved our headcount, enabling an increase in output and efficiencies in our operations by late in the third quarter. We continue to work with our vendors and customers to minimize disruptions in our supply channels to stabilize costs and ensure supply," stated Mr. Harvey. "Value added revenue for the fourth quarter 2021 is anticipated to be up low single digits from the third quarter with adjusted EBITDA margin to remain similar to the third quarter. While our end market demand remains positive, we anticipate cost issues and supply chain disruptions will continue during the quarter. In addition, the most recent industry wide disruptions in the magnesium and silicon markets and resulting supply demand imbalances are continuing to evolve and remain uncertain at this time. Although our outlook contemplates the anticipated impact to our costs and operations, the situation is fluid and could further impact our fourth quarter results," said Mr. Harvey.

FB | Hot Stocks10:46 EDT Britain fines Facebook GBP 50.5M for breaching order in Giphy deal - Britain's Competition and Markets Authority said Facebook has been fined GBP50.5M for breaching an order imposed by the CMA during its investigation into Facebook's purchase of Giphy. The agency said, "It is standard practice to issue an initial enforcement order at the start of an investigation into a completed acquisition. This ensures that companies continue to compete with each other as they would have without the merger, and prevents the companies involved from integrating further while a merger investigation is ongoing. The Competition and Markets Authority imposed this type of order on Facebook in June 2020 in relation to its purchase of Giphy. Facebook is required, as part of the process, to provide the CMA with regular updates outlining its compliance with the IEO. Facebook significantly limited the scope of those updates, despite repeated warnings from the CMA. It was also criticised last year by the Competition Appeal Tribunal and Court of Appeal for its lack of cooperation with the CMA and 'what might be regarded as a high-risk strategy' in relation to not complying with the IEO and not keeping the CMA updated as the IEO required. The compliance reports are crucial to ensure that the CMA has oversight of the companies' behaviour, including whether Facebook has been taking any action which might prejudice the outcome of its investigation. This is the first time a company has been found by the CMA to have breached an IEO by consciously refusing to report all the required information. Given the multiple warnings it gave Facebook, the CMA considers that Facebook's failure to comply was deliberate. As a result, the CMA has issued a fine of GBP 50 million for this major breach, which fundamentally undermined its ability to prevent, monitor and put right any issues. Separately, the CMA has fined Facebook GBP 500,000 for changing its Chief Compliance Officer on two separate occasions without seeking consent first." Reference Link

GOOG... | Hot Stocks10:16 EDT Walgreens to deploy Wing drone deliveries in Dallas-Fort Worth area - In a blog post by Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Wing, the company said, " Today we're unveiling a new model for drone delivery that will allow us to expand into densely-populated metropolitan areas in the United States. Wing will stage delivery drones at retail locations; ready to fly directly to customers. The aircraft will arrive in small containers that serve as tiny hangars, allowing each store to quickly and easily deploy a small, dedicated fleet from its parking lot, on its roof, or in small spaces adjacent to the building. When this model launches, Walgreens (WBA) will be the first U.S. retailer to use this new approach. Walgreens team members will process orders and load packages onto the delivery drones, and Wing will oversee operation of the delivery service. Our first lightweight, co-located operation will be set up at a Dallas-Fort Worth area Walgreens store in its parking lot, serving parts of the city of Frisco and town of Little Elm. In addition to the Walgreens store, Wing has teamed up with Hillwood to prepare a separate drone delivery facility within Frisco Station, an urban, mixed-used development located in Frisco. Hillwood has a long track record supporting forward-thinking, innovative transportation initiatives across the region, most notably at its AllianceTexas development and its designated Mobility Innovation Zone. We look forward to working with Hillwood as we deploy a facility at Frisco Station that has all the usual delivery capabilities, but will be dedicated to exploring new use cases, community demonstrations, school field trips and public tours...In preparation for this launch, we've been conducting test flights since June at Hillwood's AllianceTexas Flight Test Center, a drone testing facility in Fort Worth. We'll begin a small number of practice flights next week in Frisco and Little Elm, and hope to set up delivery demonstrations to get feedback from the community in the coming weeks. In the coming months, we expect to launch a commercial service there that would be the first of its kind in a major U.S. metro." Reference Link

CMPS | Hot Stocks09:04 EDT Compass reports data from open-label study of COMP360 psilocybin therapy - COMPASS Pathways welcomed the topline data shared from an open-label study of psilocybin therapy for depression in cancer patients. Within one week of a single administration of COMP360 psilocybin therapy, 50% of participants achieved remission in depression symptoms, which was sustained for the eight week follow-up period. This investigator-initiated feasibility study was conducted by Maryland Oncology Hematology at the Aquilino Cancer Center in Rockville, Maryland, USA. It was an open-label study involving 30 patients with cancer diagnosis and major depressive disorder, all of whom completed the study. Half of the participants had previously been treated for their current episode of depression with antidepressants and all were receiving active treatment for cancer; 19 participants had no previous experience with psychedelic substances. Patients were given a 25mg dose of COMP360 psilocybin in conjunction with psychological support from specially trained therapists, following the COMP360 psilocybin therapy protocol. Unlike earlier psilocybin therapy trials for depression in cancer, this study was not restricted to patients with late-stage cancer. The Maryland team also pioneered simultaneous group administration in a cancer care centre, with two to four patients being given psilocybin at the same time, with 1:1 therapist support. This tested the value of group support for cancer patients as well as the potential for increased scalability in providing psilocybin therapy in real world settings. COMP360 psilocybin therapy was found to be generally well tolerated with no treatment-related serious adverse events. Adverse effects seen on the day of dosing were as expected from experience in healthy volunteer groups and included headache, changes in sensory perception and mood alteration. Patients were assessed using the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale a clinician-administered symptom questionnaire. A sustained response rate was seen by 24 patients; 15 patients showed remission of depression symptoms one week after a single dose of psilocybin, which was sustained up to eight weeks. The 30 patients in the study began with an average MADRS score of 25.9, representing moderate depression. After psilocybin therapy, the average score dropped by 19.1 points. The study investigators noted that this was an open-label study in which neither patients nor raters were blinded, so there is a significant risk that the results incorporate a large expectancy bias.

VYGR | Hot Stocks08:56 EDT Voyager Therapeutics presents preclinical data on GBA1 gene therapy - Voyager Therapeutics announced the presentation of preclinical data demonstrating a single intravenous dose of its novel GBA1 gene replacement therapy achieved widespread distribution in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues of mice, and substantially raised levels of the GCase enzyme in both in vivo and in vitro models. The results are available in an on-demand poster session throughout the virtual Congress of the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy Oct. 19-22. Data presented at ESGCT demonstrates that AAV gene transfer of GBA1 transgenes in the cells of mouse models significantly reduced GCase enzyme activity and the accumulation of glycosphingolipids compared to non-AAV delivery. The treatment was well tolerated at all doses and resulted in the safe delivery of therapeutically relevant levels of GBA1 protein to multiple brain regions in mice. Key findings included: AAV vector optimized GBA1 achieved widespread distribution and sustained correction of GCase activity after IV administration in WT mice. Consistent voltage gated distribution and GCase activity was observed across the CNS following IV delivery. IV administration of BBB-penetrant capsid optimized GBA1 transgenes at a high dose resulted in approximately a 300% - 660% increase over endogenous GCase levels, suggesting the potential for dose reductions given that increased GCase activity of 30% - 50% is anticipated to be clinically impactful. Results validate GBA1 transgene-level DRG tissue-detargeting approach in vitro.

GURE | Hot Stocks08:53 EDT Gulf Resources says bromine pricing 'should be good' for Q4 profitability - Gulf Resources updated investors on the impact of issues in the world and Chinese economy on its business operations. The company said, "Bromine prices have risen substantially throughout the world and even more substantially in China. In the world market, shipping issues have disrupted delivery. As a result, China has been unable to import its normal share of bromine. With the shortage in supply and demand, prices of bromine have soared to the highest levels ever recorded. Bromine is currently priced at RMB 69,500 per tonne, an increase of 41% in the past few weeks and 148% higher than the end of the 3rd quarter in 2020. Since the raw material price increases are lower than the bromine price increase, we believe this type of pricing should be good for our Fourth Quarter 2021 profitability. The Company has no idea how long the current shortages will last, however, we will keep shareholders informed of any changes we have seen. The world and Chinese economies have been impacted by supply chain issues in many industries including the energy industry. Shipping shortages have disrupted delivery of many products throughout the world. China has also been impacted by shortages of energy. For example, in some regions of China, the government have restricted electrical usage, including Shouguang City. And some businesses under construction have been restricted from electrical usage in Shouguang City. The supply chain issues as well as the electric restrictions have delayed the production and delivery of some equipment to the Company's new chemical factory. In addition, the Company's new chemical factory has also been restricted from the electrical usage. This means the installation, timing of testing and beginning trial production at the chemical factory will be delayed. At this time, the Company is not in a position to determine the extent of the delays, but it will keep shareholders advised.:

These findings are especially important since approximately 80% of patients undergoing hemodialysis start with a central venous catheter as their first vascular access. Key findings include: Approximately 29% of the ~56k hemodialysis patients studied had an occurrence of CRBSI post CVC-insertion; Over 54% of first CRBSIs occurred within 3 months following CVC insertion; CRBSIs lead to more hospital admissions, longer stays, and a more complicated clinical course; Hemodialysis related CRBSIs are associated with significant mortality; and analysis estimates $2.3B in direct costs from CVC-CRBSIs annually. Dr. Matt David, interim Chief Executive Officer of CorMedix commented, "The abstracts being presented represent important work by the CorMedix team to expand our understanding of the magnitude of CRBSIs as a problem in the hemodialysis patient community. We have demonstrated in clinical study that DefenCath can reduce CRBSIs in CVC patients undergoing hemodialysis by approximately 71%. As we continue to work to secure marketing authorization for DefenCath, we are motivated by these data that reinforce the unmet medical need that we plan to address by reducing life-threatening CRBSIs."

The study was designed to evaluate elacestrant as a monotherapy versus the standard of care for the treatment of ER+/HER2- advanced or metastatic breast cancer. There were two primary endpoints: progression-free survival in the overall population and PFS in patients with tumors harboring estrogen receptor 1 mutations. In the poster presented at the ASHG conference titled, "Optical genome mapping capability expanded to enable detection of absence of heterozygosity," the study's authors, Rao, et al., describe a method for AOH detection based on OGM results from the Saphyr system. Measurement and representation of allelic imbalance enables OGM to detect triploidy and other chromosomal imbalances and may shed light on mosaic SVs. This capability could further expand the utility of OGM in constitutional genetic disease research.

SLGC | Hot Stocks08:12 EDT SomaLogic announces study using SomaScan Platform connecting genes to diseases - An international research team led by scientists at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charite and the University of Cambridge used SomaLogic's SomaScan Platform to generate data on thousands of proteins in human blood. They then combined this information with genetic data to reveal a network of gene-protein connections that drive human diseases that span a variety of medical specialties and organ systems. This study was recently published in Science. The study was based on blood samples from more than 10,000 participants. This genome-proteome-wide association study measured 10.2 million genetic variants and 4,775 distinct proteins. Among the key findings of the study was the identification of 10,674 genetic variant-protein associations, or pQTLs, for 3,892 distinct proteins. By connecting disease-related genomic variations to specific encoded proteins that are affected by these variations, the team was able to identify 1,859 connections between protein-encoded genes and diseases. The research team was "surprised" to find that single proteins can be connected to several diseases. For example, the team matched one protein, fibulin-3, to 37 seemingly unrelated conditions, including hypermobility, hernia, varicose veins and a lower risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. This may be attributed to fibulin-3's role in creating elastic fibers covering our organs and joints. This finding may help to explain why unrelated symptoms can occur at the same time in patients, and may lead to new drug targets for treating diseases and minimizing adverse effects. "This study reveals a stunning discovery about the interconnectedness of many disease states," said SomaLogic Chief Medical Officer, Stephen Williams, M.D. "This research team was able to capitalize on SomaLogic's extensive protein menu. Most of the informative proteins are not measured by any other high throughput platform. This study harmonized that information with genomic data to give us a view into human disease that we've yet to see until now."

During American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry 68th Annual Meeting, or AACAP 2021, Rene Braeckman, Ph.D., Vice President, Clinical Development for KemPharm, will present the poster titled, "Single-Dose Pharmacokinetics of Serdexmethylphenidate/d-Methylphenidate Capsules in Children and Adolescents with ADHD and Healthy Adults: An Evaluation of Age and Body Weight," which highlights data from two Phase 1 clinical trials evaluating the pharmacokinetic properties of single doses of AZSTARYS administered to children, adolescents, and adults. Researchers demonstrated that the shape of the PK curves in children and adolescents was similar to that in adults. Consistent with published studies of methylphenidate PK, exposure of d-MPH decreased with age due to body weight differences between younger children and adolescents. However, when normalized by dose and body weight, d-MPH exposure levels and PK parameters were comparable between children, adolescents, and adults. Researchers concluded that body weight rather than age is the appropriate scaling factor for d-MPH exposure levels after AZSTARYS dosing in children and adolescents.

The letter did not explain why SPIBA-001, the company's positive Phase 3 trial comparing SPIBA-201 results to a retrospective natural history control and the primary basis for the NDA submission, would not be considered an adequate and well-controlled trial. Stealth is evaluating the appropriate next steps and anticipates providing an update in early November. Stealth and the FDA have previously discussed the challenges of conducting additional clinical trials in Barth syndrome, which is an ultra-rare genetic disease affecting fewer than 130 individuals in the United States. "We submitted our NDA at the request of the Barth syndrome patient community, which petitioned us and the FDA to gain access to elamipretide and shared with the FDA its tolerance of risk of uncertainty of benefit based on the data from the small clinical trials we were able to conduct in this ultra-rare disease," said CEO Reenie McCarthy. "We deeply value our relationship with the Barth syndrome patient community, and hope to find a way to progress elamipretide as a treatment for Barth syndrome."

NTLA | Hot Stocks07:36 EDT Intellia Therapeutics presents preclinical data on capabilities of CRISPR - Intellia Therapeutics announced new data supporting novel capabilities of its CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing platform, which the Company plans to leverage for the development of future therapeutic candidates. The data shared showed that Intellia's allogeneic platform can prevent immune rejection of allogeneic T cells in in vitro and in vivo models for future application in TCR-T and CAR-T therapy. Additionally, data highlighted that lipid nanoparticles, LNPs, can replace electroporation for delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 gene edits to T cells, avoiding the risk of chromosomal translocations observed when multiple edits are performed simultaneously, as well as the negative effect of electroporation on T cell health. Finally, results from an ongoing study demonstrated proof-of-concept in non-human primates for in vivo gene insertion and knockout for the treatment of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, which resulted in sustained production of normal human levels of healthy alpha-1 antitrypsin protein and reduction of the endogenous disease-associated protein. "Preclinical data presented at ESGCT's Annual Congress show that using our proprietary genome editing platform, Intellia is able to accomplish multiple CRISPR/Cas9 edits in both in vivo and ex vivo applications, advancing our efforts to develop treatments for challenging genetic diseases like alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and to potentially expand both the effectiveness and availability of engineered cell therapies for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases," said Intellia President and Chief Executive Officer John Leonard, M.D. "This important preclinical work supports our mission as we look ahead to initiating a first-in-human study of NTLA-5001, our first ex vivo candidate, in patients with acute myeloid leukemia, and nominating at least one new development candidate before the end of this year as well as additional candidates in 2022."

BYSI | Hot Stocks07:17 EDT BeyondSpring announces PDX cancer model data for plinabulin monotherapy - BeyondSpring Pharmaceuticals announced the presentation of preclinical data in patient-derived, PDX, cancer models supporting the use of plinabulin in small cell lung cancer, SCLC, at the 2021 AACR-NCI-EORTC Virtual International Conference on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics, held October 7-10, 2021. Plinabulin is a selective immunomodulating microtubule-binding agent, which induces dendritic cell maturation for durable anti-cancer benefit, and selectively induces certain types of cancer cell apoptosis, both through immune defense protein GEF-H1 release and activation. This study demonstrates plinabulin's direct single agent anti-cancer tumor effects in PDX models of SCLC and additional cancer types, including glioblastoma multiforme, bladder cancer, gastric cancer, sarcoma and triple-negative breast cancer. The study was intended to screen cancer cells for susceptibility to plinabulin. For this purpose, PDX models of cancer established from patient tumor biopsies were used in a manner that results in minimal chance for changes in cancer cell genetics, and hence, these models are considered more predictive of clinical response than common cancer models. Eighty PDX three-dimensional culture models were tested. Data showed that the cancer types most sensitive to plinabulin were: SCLC; Bladder cancer; and Soft tissue sarcoma. Dr. Lan Huang, BeyondSpring's co-founder, CEO and chairwoman concluded, "We have been developing plinabulin in multiple cancer indications based on its effects on dendritic cells and macrophages. Plinabulin's anti-cancer effect is supported by the positive Phase 3 DUBLIN-3 non-small cell lung cancer study with evidence of the extension of overall survival. Plinabulin has also shown efficacy in preventing chemotherapy-induced neutropenia, which has received Breakthrough Designation and Priority Review from the U.S. FDA. Plinabulin's single agent anti-cancer activity in PDX SCLC models and the relevant positive immuno-oncology combo preliminary clinical data in SCLC could potentially expand its cancer indications. We look forward to continuing to expand these anti-cancer indications in the clinic and to validate plinabulin as a 'pipeline in a drug.'"

SCL | Hot Stocks06:59 EDT Stepan Company says supply chain disruptions continue to impact the company - "The Company delivered record nine-month earnings in 2021," said Stepan Jr. "Looking forward, we believe our Surfactant volumes in the North American consumer product end markets will continue to be challenged by raw material and transportation availability. We believe that demand for surfactants within the agricultural and oilfield markets will exceed prior year demand. We believe our Polymer business will deliver growth versus prior year due to the ongoing recovery from pandemic-related delays and cancellations of re-roofing and new construction projects and our first quarter 2021 acquisition of INVISTA's aromatic polyester polyol business. We continue to believe the long-term prospects for rigid polyols remain attractive as energy conservation efforts and more stringent building codes are expected to continue. We anticipate our Specialty Product business results will improve slightly year-over-year. Despite supply chain disruptions continuing to impact the Company, we remain optimistic about delivering full year earnings growth."

CS | Hot Stocks06:16 EDT Switzerland's FINMA concludes proceedings against Credit Suisse - Credit Suisse seriously violated the organizational requirements and the AMLA reporting obligations in connection with loans it made to state-owned companies in Mozambique in 2013, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA said in a statement. FINMA is concluding its enforcement proceedings in this context and imposing conditions on Credit Suisse's new lending business with financially weak countries, it added. During the course of the FINMA investigation, Credit Suisse has already adopted and partially implemented measures to improve the Group-wide risk management and internal control systems. FINMA will appoint an independent third party to review the implementation and effectiveness of these measures. FINMA also decrees that in future the Credit Suisse Group AG must ensure that all lending transactions that pose increased risks for the entire Group are escalated to Group level and that the decision-making process is documented accordingly. In doing so, it must make an overall assessment of all types of risk, i.e. of a financial, reputational or legal nature, at the Group level. Furthermore, FINMA will arrange for Credit Suisse's existing credit transactions with financially weak and corruption-prone states or companies with guarantees from such states to be reviewed by an independent third party, as well as the correct implementation of the AMLA reporting obligations. This quarter we received a Notice To Proceed on our first battery sales contract with Enel and are progressing on schedule with the build out of LCE's product development and stack manufacturing facility in Massachusetts with an expected annual capacity of 1.4 GWh. On the operational front, our performance improved in Q3 2021 as highlighted by a 5% increase in production over Q3 2020 and a 6% increase over Q2 2021. The strong production performance during the quarter was largely driven by increased throughput and improved recoveries following the completion of the company's expansion project in Q2 2021. Despite improved production results and steady vanadium demand in all regions, the company experienced logistical challenges which resulted in lower sales for the quarter."

Over the longer-term, depending on the timelines of legalization and regulatory change in jurisdictions outside of Canada, High Tide's vision is to make the Cabana Club into a global cannabis community.

CS | Hot Stocks06:11 EDT Credit Suisse to pay nearly $100M to SEC to resolve Mozambique charges - Credit Suisse Group AG has agreed to pay nearly $475M to U.S. and U.K authorities, including nearly $100M to the Securities and Exchange Commission, for fraudulently misleading investors and violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in a scheme involving two bond offerings and a syndicated loan that raised funds on behalf of state-owned entities in Mozambique. According to the SEC's order, these transactions that raised over $1B were used to perpetrate a hidden debt scheme, pay kickbacks to now-indicted former Credit Suisse investment bankers along with their intermediaries, and bribe corrupt Mozambique government officials. The SEC's order finds that the offering materials created and distributed to investors by Credit Suisse hid the underlying corruption and falsely disclosed that the proceeds would help develop Mozambique's tuna fishing industry. Credit Suisse failed to disclose the full extent and nature of Mozambique's indebtedness and the risk of default arising from these transactions. The SEC's order also finds that the scheme resulted from Credit Suisse's deficient internal accounting controls, which failed to properly address significant and known risks concerning bribery. Severe LAD-I is a rare pediatric disease that prevents patients from adequately combating infections. LAD-I leads to recurrent life-threatening bacterial and fungal infections that respond poorly to antimicrobials, require frequent hospitalizations and are ultimately fatal. The data presented at ESGCT are from the initial seven patients with severe LAD-I, as defined by CD18 expression of less than 2%, who were treated with RP-L201, Rocket's ex-vivo lentiviral gene therapy candidate. The safety profile of RP-L201 appears favorable with all infusions well tolerated and no drug product-related serious adverse events, or SAEs. Preliminary efficacy was evident in all seven patients, including two patients with at least 12 months of follow-up. All seven patients demonstrated durable neutrophil CD18 expression that exceeded the 4-10% threshold associated with survival into adulthood and consistent with reversal of the severe LAD-I phenotype. Peripheral blood vector copy number (VCN) levels have been stable and in the 0.5-2.5 copy per genome range. No patients have had LAD-I related infections requiring hospitalization subsequent to hematopoietic reconstitution post RP-L201. Overall, 18 months post-treatment, Patient 1001 demonstrated sustained CD18 expression in 43.7% of neutrophils, peripheral blood VCN levels of 1.43 copies per genome and resolution of pre-existing skin lesions; 9 months post-treatment, Patient 1004 demonstrated sustained CD18 expression in 28.2% of neutrophils and peripheral blood VCN levels of 0.88 copies per genome at 12 months post treatment; 9 months post-treatment, Patient 2006 demonstrated sustained CD18 expression in 70.9% of neutrophils and peripheral blood VCN levels of 2.49 copies per genome; 6 months post-treatment, Patient 2007 demonstrated 86.6% neutrophil CD18 expression and peripheral blood VCNs of 2.4 at 3 months post treatment; 6 months post-treatment, Patient 2008 demonstrated 51.6% neutrophil CD18 expression and peripheral blood VCNs of 1.38 at 3 months post treatment; 3 months post-treatment, Patient 2005 demonstrated 51.2% neutrophil CD18 expression and peripheral blood VCNs of 0.79 at 6 months post treatment; 3 months post-treatment, Patient 2009 demonstrated 25.6% neutrophil CD18 expression and peripheral blood VCN levels of 0.54.
