CTLT... | Hot Stocks20:12 EDT Fly Intel: Top five weekend stock stories - Catch up on the weekend's top five stories with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Contract drug manufacturer Catalent (CTLT) is expected to announce Monday that it has agreed to buy closely held Bettera Holdings for $1 billion, The Wall Street Journal's Jared Hopkins reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The all-cash deal, which is expected to be announced Monday morning, would expand Catalent's manufacturing capabilities for vitamins, minerals and supplements to make them in gummy form, the people said. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the fourth quarter, the author added. 2. Baxter International (BAX) is in advanced talks to buy medical-equipment maker Hill-Rom Holdings (HRC) for around $10 billion, The Wall Street Journal's Cara Lombardo and Dana Cimilluca reported, citing people familiar with the matter. A deal that values Hill-Rom at around $150 a share could be reached by midweek assuming the talks don't fall apart, the people said. The talks follow an earlier bid from Baxter worth $144 a share that Hill-Rom rebuffed, the authors noted. 3. One peculiar outcome of the pandemic has been a newfound appreciation for the personal computer, with the pandemic underlining the need to upgrade to hardware capable of running videoconferencing and other essential software, Eric Savitz wrote in this week's edition of Barron's. This revival has boosted the fortunes of Apple (AAPL), Dell Technologies (DELL), and HP Inc. (HPQ), the author noted. Both HP and Dell should get a boost from an expected pickup in IT spending, and both stocks look cheap, the publication added. 4. Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "Candyman" won the domestic box office with $22.4M in its opening weekend at 3,569 locations, beating expectations despite the surge of the delta variant and hurricane Ida. Overseas, the movie is only expected to gross $5.2M for a global total of $27.6M. 5. Berry Global (BERY), Poly (POLY), and Lululemon (LULU) saw positive mentions in this week's edition of Barron's.
