COVID-19 is blowing a gaping hole in the balance sheets of U.S. corporations, which is a big problem for stock investors, who, essentially, are seeing billions in value transferred from their portfolios to bondholders, Al Root wrote in this week's edition of Barron's. Many stocks have fallen much farther than what the amount of added debt might imply is fair, creating an opportunity for investors to pick up depressed stock in companies likely to survive the coronavirus-induced economic pause, despite higher debt levels, he contended. Johnson Controls (JCI), NetApp (NTAP), Fox (FOXA), and HP (HPQ) look like buys as COVID-19, the author added. 4. Tesla (TSLA) has taken its first step to becoming an energy provider in the U.K., by applying to the U.K.'s energy regulator for a license to generate electricity, The Telegraph's Ed Clowes and Olivia Rudgard report. The application does not make clear why Tesla has applied for the license. 5. Occidental Petroleum (OXY), Western Midstream Partners (WES), Cenovus Energy (CVE), EQT (EQT), Continental Resources (CLR), Marathon Oli (MRO), Range Resources (RRC), Comstock Resources (CRK), Southwestern Energy (SWN), Parsley Energy (PE), Madison Square Garden Entertainment (MSGE), Madison Square Garden Sports (MSGS) and Tyson Foods (TSN) saw positive mentions in this week's edition of Barron's.
