This customer is forecasting significant growth in shipments for silicon photonics devices that we expect to drive the need for additional production test and burn-in capacity for multiple years into the future. "We continue to be very optimistic about the silicon photonics and photonics sensors markets and believe they will be significant growth drivers for Aehr. Market Research Engine projects silicon photonics for data center and high-performance computing to grow at a compounded rate of 26.8% from 2017 through 2024. The rapid growth of integrated optical devices in mobile devices, high-performance servers and data centers, automotive applications, and now wearable biosensor markets, is driving substantially higher requirements for initial quality and long-term reliability, and they are increasing with every new product generation. We believe these new applications are driving an entirely new level of quality and reliability expectation for these systems and pose a significant long-term growth opportunity for Aehr."

16:17 EDT Merrimack to discontinue development of MM-310 - Merrimack announced the company is discontinuing development of MM-310, its antibody-directed nanotherapeutic for the treatment of solid tumors. This decision was the result of a comprehensive review of available safety data from its Phase 1 study. Based on emerging data since the recent amendment of the clinical protocol, the company has concluded that the study would not be able to reach an optimal therapeutic index for MM-310. Merrimack has terminated the study and expects to initiate a workforce reduction as it closes out clinical activities, reflective of its narrowed preclinical pipeline and in line with prior cost-cutting measures. "We are disappointed that amending the trial protocol does not appear to have solved the cumulative toxicity observed in patients treated with MM-310," said Sergio Santillana, M.D., M.Sc., Chief Medical Officer of Merrimack. "However, we are grateful to our investigators and patients for their commitment to cancer research, and to our team for all their efforts in supporting the development and clinical evaluation of MM-310." "Due to our ongoing exploration of strategic alternatives and given these unfortunate challenges in identifying a clinically meaningful safety profile for MM-310, we have decided to halt further development of the program," said Richard Peters, M.D., Ph.D., President & Chief Executive Officer of Merrimack. "Additionally, as we have narrowed the scope of our pipeline to our two most promising preclinical programs, MM-401 and MM-201, we are initiating steps to close out remaining clinical activities in order to further preserve our resources. We continue to prudently advance these programs as we work expeditiously to bring our ongoing strategic process to conclusion." In November, Merrimack announced the observation of emerging cumulative grade 3 peripheral neuropathy in three solid tumor patients following multiple cycles of treatment with MM-310 and amended the clinical protocol to extend the dosing schedule from an every three week to an every four week regimen, tightened inclusion and exclusion criteria and implemented proactive dose-reduction rules at the first signs of peripheral neuropathy. Despite the amended protocol, emerging data show MM-310 administered every four weeks continues to result in significant cumulative peripheral neuropathy, which precludes the study from reaching an optimal therapeutic index for MM-310. Merrimack plans to work swiftly to close out clinical activities and carry out associated cost-cutting measures and expects to provide an update on these efforts with its first quarter 2019 financial results. Additionally, in light of its ongoing strategic process, the Company continues to prudently advance its preclinical immuno-oncology pipeline: MM-401, an agonistic antibody targeting a novel immuno-oncology target, TNFR2; and MM-201, a highly stabilized agonist-Fc fusion protein targeting death receptors 4 and 5. Encouraging data from both programs were presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting held March 29 - April 3 in Atlanta, GA.

15:06 EDT Muilenburg says Boeing's responsibility to eliminate erroneous MCAS risk - Boeing released a statement from CEO Dennis Muilenburg to address the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 preliminary report, in which the CEO stated in part: "We at Boeing are sorry for the lives lost in the recent 737 MAX accidents. These tragedies continue to weigh heavily on our hearts and minds, and we extend our sympathies to the loved ones of the passengers and crew on board Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302...The full details of what happened in the two accidents will be issued by the government authorities in the final reports, but, with the release of the preliminary report of the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 accident investigation, it's apparent that in both flights the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, known as MCAS, activated in response to erroneous angle of attack information. The history of our industry shows most accidents are caused by a chain of events. This again is the case here, and we know we can break one of those chain links in these two accidents. As pilots have told us, erroneous activation of the MCAS function can add to what is already a high workload environment. It's our responsibility to eliminate this risk. We own it and we know how to do it. From the days immediately following the Lion Air accident, we've had teams of our top engineers and technical experts working tirelessly in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration and our customers to finalize and implement a software update that will ensure accidents like that of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 never happen again. We're taking a comprehensive, disciplined approach, and taking the time, to get the software update right. We're nearing completion and anticipate its certification and implementation on the 737 MAX fleet worldwide in the weeks ahead. We regret the impact the grounding has had on our airline customers and their passengers. This update, along with the associated training and additional educational materials that pilots want in the wake of these accidents, will eliminate the possibility of unintended MCAS activation and prevent an MCAS-related accident from ever happening again. We at Boeing take the responsibility to build and deliver airplanes to our airline customers and to the flying public that are safe to fly, and can be safely flown by every single one of the professional and dedicated pilots all around the world...We remain confident in the fundamental safety of the 737 MAX...When the MAX returns to the skies with the software changes to the MCAS function, it will be among the safest airplanes ever to fly."

12:10 EDT Boeing says will 'carefully review' Ethiopian AIB report - Boeing issued the following statement from Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Kevin McAllister regarding the release today of the preliminary investigation report of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 by the Ethiopian Accident Investigation Bureau: "I'd like to reiterate our deepest sympathies are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the accident. We thank Ethiopia's Accident Investigation Bureau for its hard work and continuing efforts. Understanding the circumstances that contributed to this accident is critical to ensuring safe flight. We will carefully review the AIB's preliminary report, and will take any and all additional steps necessary to enhance the safety of our aircraft. Safety is a core value for everyone at Boeing and the safety of our airplanes, our customers' passengers and crews is always our top priority. Boeing's technical experts continue to assist in this investigation and company-wide teams are working to address lessons from the Lion Air Flight 610 accident in October. The preliminary report contains flight data recorder information indicating the airplane had an erroneous angle of attack sensor input that activated the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System function during the flight, as it had during the Lion Air 610 flight. To ensure unintended MCAS activation will not occur again, Boeing has developed and is planning to release a software update to MCAS and an associated comprehensive pilot training and supplementary education program for the 737 MAX. As previously announced, the update adds additional layers of protection and will prevent erroneous data from causing MCAS activation. Flight crews will always have the ability to override MCAS and manually control the airplane. Boeing continues to work with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and other regulatory agencies worldwide on the development and certification of the software update and training program. Boeing also is continuing to work closely with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board as technical advisors in support of the AIB investigation. As a party providing technical assistance under the direction of investigating authorities, Boeing is prevented by international protocol and NTSB regulations from disclosing any information relating to the investigation. In accordance with international protocol, information about the investigation is provided only by investigating authorities in charge."

Nicholas Hill, Chief Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Division and Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and Inspire Principal Investigator, presented the data at the opening plenary session of the International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation meeting. Liquidia is pursuing approval of LIQ861, an inhalation dry powder formulation of treprostinil, as an alternative to current inhaled treprostinil therapy for the treatment of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. "The two-month results of the Inspire trial are promising for patients with PAH. Inhaled therapy offers the benefit of getting drug directly to the lungs and we are encouraged that the safety, tolerability and quality of life metrics suggest that LIQ861 is an attractive and more convenient therapy versus the currently available inhaled therapies," said Dr. Hill. The Inspire trial includes two groups of PAH patients. Most treatment emergent adverse events occurred in the add-on population and were observed mainly during initial exposure to LIQ861 at the 25mcg dose, the company said. "Overall, TEAEs observed were consistent with inhaled prostacyclins and considered mild to moderate, including cough, headache and throat irritation. No serious adverse events related to LIQ861 were observed during the two month period," it added. Shares of Liquidia Technologies are up 7%, or 72c, to $10.92 in morning trading.

The Phase 1 open-label clinical study will enroll patients with MPM who harbor relapsed or refractory disease after having received frontline standard of care multimodality therapy with study drug provided by both Sellas and Bristol-Myers Squibb. The purpose of the trial is to determine if the administration of GPS in combination with nivolumab has the potential to demonstrate antitumor immune responses and meaningful clinical activity in the presence of macroscopic disease in MPM patients. The study will also investigate the tolerability of the combination, evaluate the immunogenicity of the two agents administered together, by CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocytes and gauge the degree of clinical benefit by assessment of the overall response rate with the combination in comparison with that reported with nivolumab alone in historical comparable patient populations. In a randomized, controlled, blinded Phase 2 clinical trial in MPM patients completed in 2017, GPS monotherapy, given as maintenance after first line tumor-debulking multimodality treatment, demonstrated meaningful clinical activity with median survival of 22.8 months vs. 18.3 months in the control group and with associated sustained immune responses against the WT1 antigen while adverse events were mainly comprised of low grade reactions at the site of the injection.

08:23 EDT Abiomed says cardiogenic shock survival rates improve since Impella approval - Three years ago this week, Abiomed's Impella heart pump received its FDA PMA approval for AMI cardiogenic shock. At the time of Impella's FDA PMA approval, the cardiogenic shock survival rate to explant in the Impella Quality Assurance Database was 51% in the United States. Impella heart pumps, combined with the adoption of best practices, which include the use of Impella pre-PCI, have contributed to a significant increase in cardiogenic shock survival and native heart recovery. New data from the IQ Database on nearly 5,000 patients treated between April 2018 and March 2019 show an increase in survival from 51% to 67%2, a relative increase of 34% in survival. Since FDA PMA approval, Abiomed has collected data on nearly 100% of U.S. Impella patients in the observational IQ Database. This clinical data, combined with the FDA post-approval studies embedded in Abiomed's prospective cVAD Study, helped identify and validate best practices for Impella use associated with improved survival and native heart recovery. These best practices, including use of Impella pre-PCI, reduction of inotropes, early identification of shock, and hemodynamic monitoring with pulmonary artery catheters, have now been validated in multiple publications. The most recent results that further validate best practices published online this week in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. After Inova Heart and Vascular Institute instituted a best practice protocol that includes early use of percutaneous mechanical circulatory support, AMI cardiogenic shock survival at 30 days rose from 44% to 82%.

07:57 EDT Tonix Pharmaceuticals expands TNX-102 SL to treat fibromyalgia - Tonix Pharmaceuticals announced the expansion of the TNX-102 SL 5.6 mg program beyond posttraumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, to include Phase 3 development for TNX-102 SL in fibromyalgia. TNX-102 SL, or Tonmya, is Tonix's lead Phase 3 program in PTSD with the Phase 3 RECOVERY trial actively enrolling military and civilian PTSD participants. In a recent clinical guidance meeting with the FDA, Tonix received clear guidance and support to advance the development of TNX-102 SL, a non-opioid centrally-acting analgesic, for the management of fibromyalgia. Acceptable study design features were discussed to establish the safety and efficacy of TNX-102 SL 5.6 mg in a pivotal study to support the fibromyalgia indication. A lower dose of TNX-102 SL taken daily at bedtime was studied previously in fibromyalgia in a Phase 2 study and a Phase 3 study. Both studies showed clinical benefits especially in the quality of sleep improvement, however, primary analyses on pain reduction were not statistically significant. Additional data developed by Tonix in the PTSD program showed that TNX-102 SL 5.6 mg demonstrated acceptable tolerability with additional clinical benefit in pain reduction for trial participants with PTSD. There were no serious and/or unexpected adverse events reported; the most common adverse events were mostly related to local administration site reactions, such as oral hypoaesthesia and abnormal product taste. Supported by the safety and efficacy findings in PTSD, Tonix believes that increasing the dose of TNX-102 SL from 2.8 mg to 5.6 mg in the new Phase 3 fibromyalgia study will likely provide the clinical evidence to support the 5.6 mg dose as the efficacious dose for the management of fibromyalgia. The registration of TNX-102 SL 5.6 mg for the fibromyalgia indication will be supported by two positive Phase 3 studies and the long-term safety exposure data from the PTSD program may support the fibromyalgia NDA.

07:19 EDT Homology Medicines announces FDA clearance HMI-102 IND - Homology Medicines announced that the FDA has provided clearance for Homology to begin its Phase 1/2 pheNIX clinical trial with HMI-102, a one-time gene therapy candidate for adults with the rare genetic disease phenylketonuria, or PKU, an inborn error of metabolism. Homology has been working closely with multiple clinical sites in the U.S. to prepare for potential initiation of the pheNIX trial, which is designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational gene therapy in a randomized, concurrently-controlled, dose-escalation study in adult patients with classic PKU. HMI-102 is designed to use one of Homology's proprietary human hematopoietic stem-cell derived adeno-associated virus vectors, or AAVHSCs, to deliver a functional copy of the phenylalanine hydroxylase, or PAH, gene to the liver cells, where there is a missing or mutated PAH gene. This in vivo gene therapy approach is intended to enable the production of the PAH enzyme responsible for metabolizing phenylalanine, or Phe. People with PKU are not able to metabolize Phe properly resulting in elevated levels of Phe and if left untreated, can lead to severe neurological impairment. Phe reduction is an established clinical endpoint for PKU registrational trials. Homology's IND package contained preclinical data demonstrating that HMI-102 restored the normal biochemical pathway, including data showing that treatment with HMI-102 lowered serum Phe to normal levels within one week, which was durable for the lifespan of the murine model and lowered brain Phe to normal levels. HMI-102 also increased tyrosine, brain 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and changed coat color, indicating production of melanin.

07:04 EDT Orthofix announces full two-year outcomes from IDE study of M6-C cervical disc - Orthofix Medical announced the full two-year outcomes from its U.S. Investigational Device Exemption study of the M6-C artificial cervical disc. The data demonstrates that patients treated with the M6-C artificial cervical disc had significant improvements in neck and arm pain, function and quality of life scores. Additionally, these patients had a significant difference in the reduction of pain and opioid medications use when compared to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion patients. At 24 months, patients in the ACDF group who were still using pain medications had a seven times higher rate of opioid use than those in the M6-C disc group. A prospective, non-randomized, concurrently controlled clinical trial, the M6-C IDE study was conducted at 23 sites in the United States with an average patient age of 44 years. The study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the M6-C artificial cervical disc compared to ACDF for the treatment of single level symptomatic cervical radiculopathy with or without cord compression. The overall success rate for the protocol-specified primary endpoint for the M6-C disc patients was 86.8 percent at 24 months and 79.3 percent in the control group. This data statistically demonstrates that cervical disc replacement with the M6-C disc is not inferior to treatment with ACDF. fSecondary outcomes at 24 months include: Patients who received the M6-C disc demonstrated statistically significant improvement in the Neck Disability Index as measured at week six and months three, six, 12 and 24. Meaningful clinical improvement was seen in the following pain scores: 91.2 percent of patients who received the M6-C disc reported an improvement in neck pain compared to 77.9 percent in patients who underwent the ACDF procedure. 90.5 percent of the M6-C patients reported improvement in arm pain scores compared to 79.9 percent in ACDF patients. Prior to surgery, 80.6 percent of the M6-C disc patients and 85.7 percent of the ACDF patients were taking some type of pain medication for the treatment of their cervical spine condition. At 24 months, the rate of M6-C patients who were still taking some type of pain medication dropped to 14.0 percent compared to 38.2 percent of the ACDF patients. Of these, there was a seven times higher rate of opioid use with the ACDF patients than with patients who received the M6-C disc. There was a statistically significant difference in the average mean surgery time - 74.5 minutes for patients receiving the M6-C disc versus 120.2 minutes for those patients having the ACDF procedure. In addition, there was a statistically significant difference in the mean length of hospital stay - 0.61 days for the M6-C patients versus 1.10 days for ACDF patients. Subsequent surgery at the treated level was needed in 4.8 percent of the ACDF patients compared to 1.9 percent of the M6-C disc patients. There were no device migrations reported in the study. Overall patients receiving the M6-C disc reported a 92-percent satisfaction rate with the surgery, and 93 percent said they would have the surgery again. There were 3.8 percent serious adverse events related to the device or procedure in the M6-C disc group versus 6.1 percent in the ACDF group. The M6-C disc received FDA approval in February 2019 based on the results of this study.

06:48 EDT RPM CEO says 'our outlook for the fiscal 2019 fourth quarter is positive' - "Looking ahead, our outlook for the fiscal 2019 fourth quarter is positive. In the fourth quarter, which is seasonally our strongest, we expect to generate low-single-digit consolidated sales growth and double-digit adjusted EBIT growth as a result of recently implemented price increases taking hold, our MAP to Growth savings being realized and moderating raw material costs," stated CEO Sullivan. "In the fourth quarter, we expect sales growth in our industrial segment to be flat to slightly down as the segment will be impacted by tough comparisons to last fiscal year and its exposure to weakening international markets and unfavorable foreign exchange. This should be offset by savings from our MAP to Growth operating improvement plan and moderating raw material costs. For our consumer segment, we anticipate high-single-digit sales growth because of market share gains, easier comparisons to last fiscal year and the beginning of margin recovery. In the specialty segment, which comprises about 15% of consolidated sales, sales growth should be modest," Sullivan stated. "Based on our expectations for solid top-line sales growth and double-digit adjusted EBIT growth, our fiscal 2019 fourth-quarter adjusted earnings guidance is a range of $1.12 to $1.16 per diluted share, which includes accretion of $0.03 to $0.04 per share as a result of share repurchases completed this year, versus the adjusted $1.05 during last year's fourth quarter," stated Sullivan.
