19:21 EDT Karyopharm says updated Phase 2b STORM data 'encouraging' - Karyopharm Therapeutics announced that updated clinical data from the Phase 2b STORM study evaluating selinexor, the company's lead, oral Selective Inhibitor of Nuclear Export compound, in heavily pretreated patients with penta-refractory multiple myeloma, were presented during an oral session at the Society of Hematologic Oncology 2018 Annual Meeting on September 13, 2018, in Houston. Sundar Jagannath, MD, Director of the Multiple Myeloma Program, Professor of Medicine at Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and principal investigator of the STORM study, presented the data in a session entitled, "Phase 2b Results of the STORM Study: Oral Selinexor plus Low Dose Dexamethasone in Patients with Penta-Refractory Myeloma." "The additional Phase 2b clinical results presented today are very encouraging for the patients suffering from penta-refractory multiple myeloma and their families. Most notably, the overall response rate for patients treated with oral selinexor and dexamethasone was 26.2% with median duration of response of 4.4 months based on the Independent Review Committee assessment, along with a median overall survival across the entire study of 8.6 months," said Dr. Jagannath. "Of particular significance, for the nearly 40% of patients who had a minimal response or better, the median survival was 15.6 months, which provided the opportunity for a meaningful clinical benefit for patients on the STORM study with advanced penta-refractory myeloma that is difficult to treat."

16:52 EDT AMD closes down over 5% in dramatic reversal - Shares of semiconductor maker AMD (AMD) closed down over 5% after opening up almost 7% at the beginning of trading on Thursday. Shares of the chipmaker are around 13% higher week-to-date, even with Thursday's reversal. WEEK OF UPGRADES: A number of Wall Street firms raised their price targets on AMD shares since Monday including FBN Securities and Rosenblatt, both targeting $40 a share. Rosenblatt's Hans Mosesmann raised his price target for AMD, citing a faster ramp in 7nm GPUs. AMD's move over the past several quarters and going forward reminds the analyst of Nvidia's (NVDA) setup nearly three years ago, when the latter transformed from a PC graphics play to a computing powerhouse. GOODNESS PRICED IN: Early Thursday, Deutsche Bank analyst Ross Seymore raised his price target for AMD to $23 from $14 after hosting AMD CFO Devinder Kumar at his firm's 2018 Tech Conference. However, even with his raised 2020 estimates, the analyst said in a research note that he believes "the goodness at AMD is already fully reflected in its share price." The stock's current valuation is elevated at 34 times consensus 2020 earnings estimates, Seymore told investors in his report. Further, he believes upside in earnings to the most bullish estimates likely ignores the potential for competitive responses from Intel (INTC) and Nvidia. Seymore kept a Hold rating on AMD. PRICE ACTION: AMD opened the session at a multi-year high of $34.14, but quickly retreated to close the session down 5.37% to $30.65.

16:48 EDT Sears says special committee continues to explore sale of Kenmore brand - "As previously announced on May 14, 2018, a special committee of the board of directors of the Company is overseeing a formal process to explore the sale of our Kenmore brand and related assets, the Sears Home Improvement Products business of the Sears Home Services division and the Parts Direct business of the Sears Home Services division. As previously reported, the Board received a letter from ESL Investments, expressing the view that the Company should pursue a divestiture of the Sale Assets in order to maximize their value, and expressing interest in participating as a purchaser of all or a portion of the Sale Assets should the Company do so. The Board established the Special Committee, which consists solely of independent directors, and is advised by independent advisors, to evaluate any proposals that may be received from ESL with respect to the Sale Assets, to actively solicit third-party interest in the Sale Assets, and to explore any other alternatives with respect to the Sale Assets that may maximize value for the Company. On August 14, 2018 the Special Committee received a non-binding proposal letter from ESL to acquire the Kenmore brand and related assets and the Sears Home Improvement Products business of the Sears Home Services division, each subject to various conditions including obtaining debt financing, and, in the case of Kenmore, obtaining equity financing on terms acceptable to ESL. The Special Committee is evaluating the proposal, and potentially other proposals as part of its formal process. We also continue to explore ways to unlock value across a range of other assets and to maximize the value of our Sears Home Services, Innovel and Sears Auto Centers businesses, as well as our DieHard brand. Options we are exploring include partnerships, sales or other means of externalization that could expand distribution of our brands and service offerings."

We continue to evaluate our network of stores, which is a critical component to our integrated retail transformation, and will make further adjustments as needed. As part of the Company's ongoing efforts to simplify its organization structure and in recognition of the fact that we are becoming a smaller company, we continue to evaluate all areas of our cost structure and intend to pursue additional measures to achieve cost savings, including greater consolidation of the Sears and Kmart corporate and support functions. We expect these initiatives to result in annualized cost savings of approximately $100 million. This is in addition to the Company's $200 million of annualized cost savings initiative announced earlier this year that we have exceeded. These incremental cost actions, along with the completion of the various financing and asset sale transactions are intended provide us with the path forward to transform the Company successfully, while continuing to focus on our key priorities - Shop Your Way and Integrated Retail, as well as on our Best Members, Best Categories and Best Stores."

14:33 EDT JPMorgan CFO still sees 6%-7% core loan growth ex-CIB this year - JPMorgan CFO Marianne Lake said, at the Barclays Global Financial Services Conference,"So we gave an outlook for loan growth between 6% and 7% core loan growth, including CIB, because not to dismiss the importance of CIB loans but they are -- can be episodic and they can be large and lumpy but they're also clearly a feature and a factor of our strategy in relationships. Yes, we're still looking for 6% to 7% core loan growth ex CIB this year, actually, trending towards the higher end of that range. That's because we did contemplate what is happening. We contemplated that C&I and CRE, given where we are in the cycle, given the competition for those and us with our risk appetite that those would decelerate and be growing in kind of GDP kind of range, but that's contemplated in our outlook. So I would say things have played out as we would expect. And our greatest pretty much where we wanted to be given where we are in the cycle."

14:29 EDT JPMorgan CFO sees Q3 market revenues down 'about mid-single digits' - JPMorgan CFO Marianne Lake said, at the Barclays Global Financial Services Conference, "That momentum... carried on into the third quarter. And so a competitive strong year last year, a very strong year actually last year in fees. This quarter will be flat to some upside potential relative to that. So really feeling pretty good about that. Markets, if you look at last year, for the first time in a while, I can say it was neither particularly a factor in comparison nor particularly a challenging comparison in the market performance in the third quarter as last year was good. And income -- compared to that on a reported basis, our market revenues will be down year-on-year, about mid-single digits. On a reported basis, remember that there is some tax effects because of the tax growth are smaller. And if you were to normalize out that out, that's worth a couple of percentage points, and so down small on a core basis."

11:37 EDT Genentech announces FDA approval of subcutaneous formulation of Actemra - Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the subcutaneous formulation of Actemra for the treatment of active systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis in patients two years of age and older. Actemra can be given alone or in combination with methotrexate in patients with SJIA. In 2011, FDA approved the intravenous formulation of Actemra for patients two years of age and older with active SJIA. The approval is based on data from the JIGSAW-118 study, a 52-week, open-label, multicenter, Phase 1b pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic bridging study designed to determine the appropriate dosing regimen of Actemra SC across a range of body weights in children with SJIA.2 The study enrolled 51 patients aged one to 17 years with SJIA and inadequate response to NSAIDs and corticosteroids who were either Actemra naive or were receiving Actemra IV with adequate disease control. Actemra SC was administered open label according to a body weight -based dosing regimen: SJIA patients weighing less than30 kg received 162 mg of Actemra every two weeks or 10 days; and SJIA patients weighing greater than or equal to30 kg received 162 mg of Actemra every week for 52 weeks. Model-computed PK and PD parameters, and safety were assessed. In general, the safety observed for Actemra SC was consistent with the known safety profile of Actemra IV, with the exception of injection site reactions. A higher frequency of Actemra SC treated patients experienced ISRs, 41% compared to patients treated with Actemra SC for other approved indications. All ISRs reported were non-serious, and none required patient withdrawal from treatment or dose interruption. The efficacy of Actemra SC in children two to 17 years of age is based on PK exposure and extrapolation of established efficacy of Actemra IV in SJIA patients and Actemra SC in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

11:16 EDT iRhythm bounces back as analysts say Apple Watch good news, not bad - Shares of iRhythm Technologies (IRTC) were under pressure yesterday after Apple (AAPL) announced that its new Watch Series 4 had received FDA approval for a built-in electrocardiogram scanner, but have since bounced back. Commenting on Apple's new watch, JPMorgan analyst Robbie Marcus argued that the device's new features pose almost no competitive threat to iRhythm's Zio XT or AT offerings, while his peer at Canaccord highlighted that it could even be a potential market expander of Zio. APPLE WATCH SERIES 4: Apple unveiled yesterday its next-generation Watch. Dubbed Series 4, the device features a larger display, new UI, digital crown with haptics, faster performance, louder speaker, electrical heart sensor with electrocardiogram app and an optical heart sensor. IRHYTHM SELLOFF A BUYING OPPORTUNITY: In a research note to investors following Apple's event, JPMorgan's Marcus recommended investors use any weakness in shares of iRhythm as a buying opportunity. While the news that Watch Series 4 had received FDA approval for a built-in electrocardiogram scanner looks like a "notable headwind" for iRhythm, a closer look at the new device shows that this new feature poses almost no competitive threat to the company's Zio XT or AT offerings, he contended. Marcus pointed out that he does not see Apple turning the iWatch into a regulated medical device approved for clinical diagnosis. Attaining an approval with a similar label to iRhythm's Zio would significantly slow the rate of innovation and put the consumer device at the whim of the Food and Drug Administration, he added. Instead, the analyst expects that greater consumer preliminary screening for heart arrhythmias will only expand the number of patients seeking medical diagnosis, which, in turn, would benefit iRhythm. The analyst reiterated an Overweight rating on iRhythm's shares. Voicing a similar opinion, Canaccord analyst Jason Mills told investors that he would be an aggressive buyer of iRhythm's stock as he views the addition of ECG monitoring capabilities to Apple's new device as a potential market expander for the former's Zio and A-ECG devices. Wearable devices further highlight the benefit of prophylactic monitoring, helping funnel patients into physicians' offices, which Mills thinks will eventually lead physicians to prescribe dedicated, continuous monitoring devices like Zio. The analyst noted he continues to believe iRhythm has built and continues to advance a platform that is actively changing the paradigm in ambulatory ECG monitoring. He reiterated a Buy rating on iRhythm's shares, while raising his price target on the stock to $100 from $93. FITBIT UNDER PRESSURE: Shares of Fitbit (FIT) were also under pressure yesterday following Apple's unveiling of its new watch. Morgan Stanley analyst Yuuji Anderson told investors in a research note of his own that he believes the drop "rightly reflects" concerns over the pace of software and sensor improvements at Fitbit. However, the analyst added that he is more concerned that the functionalities of Fitbit's Versa and Charge 3 are not sufficiently differentiated to avoid cannibalization and their aggregate demand will not sufficiently offset legacy product declines. Anderson reiterated an Underweight rating and $4 price target on Fitbit shares. PRICE ACTION: In morning trading, shares of iRhythm have gained about 4% to $93.46.

10:06 EDT Facebook expands fact-checking for photos and videos to 27 partners - Antonia Woodford, Product Manager at Facebook, said: "We know that people want to see accurate information on Facebook, so for the last two years, we've made fighting misinformation a priority. One of the many steps we take to reduce the spread of false news is working with independent, third-party fact-checkers to review and rate the accuracy of content. To date, most of our fact-checking partners have focused on reviewing articles. However, we have also been actively working to build new technology and partnerships so that we can tackle other forms of misinformation. Today, we're expanding fact-checking for photos and videos to all of our 27 partners in 17 countries around the world (and are regularly on-boarding new fact-checking partners). This will help us identify and take action against more types of misinformation, faster. Similar to our work for articles, we have built a machine learning model that uses various engagement signals, including feedback from people on Facebook, to identify potentially false content. We then send those photos and videos to fact-checkers for their review, or fact-checkers can surface content on their own. Many of our third-party fact-checking partners have expertise evaluating photos and videos and are trained in visual verification techniques, such as reverse image searching and analyzing image metadata, like when and where the photo or video was taken... We know that fighting false news is a long-term commitment as the tactics used by bad actors are always changing. As we take action in the short-term, we're also continuing to invest in more technology and partnerships so that we can stay ahead of new types of misinformation in the future."

The sales growth resulted from MagneGas' expansion into California, Texas and Louisiana through its three acquisitions made earlier in 2018. 08:20 EDT WageWorks seen sliding after chairman resigns, committee formed for probe - WageWorks (WAGE) is in focus in pre-market trading following news that the company has set up a committee to examine an earlier investigation into financial irregularities at the employee benefits administrator. Separately, WageWorks said Chairman Joseph Jackson and board member Mariann Byerwalter have resigned. COMMITTEE, INVESTIGATION UPDATE: WageWorks said yesterday that it set up a committee to examine an earlier investigation into financial irregularities at the employee benefits administrator. The company is still in the process of reviewing its financial statements for 2017. The committee will have a minimum of three members, it said. As far as the company's review of its financial statements, WageWorks said it is expected to result in an estimated aggregate decrease in 2016 revenue of $6.5M-$9.5M and an estimated aggregate decrease in net income of $3.5M-$5.5M. It noted that it has not identified any adjustments to its financial statements that would be expected to cause revenue for fiscal 2017 to differ materially from previous guidance. CHAIRMAN RESIGNATION: Also on Wednesday, WageWorks announced the resignation of executive chairman Joseph Jackson. He will be succeeded by Stuart Harvey. In April, Jackson stepped down as CEO, being succeeded by then president and COO Edgar Montes, with CFO Colm Callan and Kimberly Wilford, the company's SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary, also resigning. The resignations were the result of an investigation into its financial controls that has delayed its 2017 annual report and damaged its valuation. The investigation had determined a revenue recognition problem associated with a big government contract in 2016, and its audit committee, along with independent professions, said it would look at whether "there was an open flow of information and appropriate tone at the top for an effective control environment." Additionally on Wednesday, WageWorks said Mariann Byerwalter resigned as a Class II director and the company said its board is actively searching for an independent board member who will "have the right skill set to complement the current board." GUIDANCE INITIATION: WageWorks said it currently expects year-over-year revenue growth for 2018 of 1%-4% and adjusted EBITDA margin of 28%-32%, excluding the impact of costs associated with the restatement efforts and any accounting adjustments. Revenue growth is expected to be driven by strong growth in the HSA product offering, partially offset by lower revenue from FSA and COBRA products, the company said. ANALYSTS DISAPPOINTED WITH GUIDANCE: WageWorks shares were downgraded at JMP Securities to Market Perform by analyst David Scharf, who said that, after talking with management, he is uncertain whether a contributing factor to the year-over-year revenue decline in the FSA and Cobra products will be recurring to some extent. His neutral bias takes into account the expected selloff in the shares today, the analyst noted. SunTrust analyst Tobey Sommer lowered his price target on WageWorks to $56 from $62 after the company offered FY18 guidance yesterday that he note was below the 7% growth assumed by consensus. The analyst also said that WageWorks' continued delays in filing its financials is "disappointing," but kept a Buy rating, stating that the company's client attrition should slow given that the company has not "completed an acquisition since 2017." Stifel analyst David Grossman lowered his price target to $55 from $64, telling investors that the 2018 guidance reveals "incremental deceleration" and that while Jackson's resignation is not surprising, "we thought he would remain through the balance of the year."

07:46 EDT Verizon in focus as former AOL chief Armstrong confirms exit - Tim Armstrong is leaving Oath, the Verizon (VZ) unit that encompasses both Yahoo and AOL, the company confirmed on Wednesday. He will be succeeded by Oath's chief operating officer K. Guru Gowrappan, who joined earlier this year from Alibaba (BABA). ARMSTRONG OUT: Tim Armstrong, the founder of Oath, is leaving the company at the end of the year, confirming reports last week that said Armstrong was in talks to depart. Armstrong came to Verizon in 2015 as part of the company's acquisition of AOL, where he had served as CEO. Verizon later acquired Yahoo and combined it with AOL into a new unit called Oath. Armstrong had attempted to build a digital advertising business to compete with Google (GOOG, GOOGL) and Facebook (FB), but the efforts so far have failed to generate much growth. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Verizon recently discussed whether to spin off the Oath business, but instead decided to integrate the unit more fully with the rest of the company's operations. Armstrong had pushed Verizon in recent months to better use its retail stores to promote Oath's services such as the ability to watch NFL football games on Yahoo Sports, sources said. GOWRAPPAN IN: K. Guru Gowrappan, who has been president and chief operating officer of Oath since April, will take over as CEO on October 1, with Armstrong remaining an adviser until the end of the year. "Guru has proven experience in scaling businesses globally. I'm thrilled he will lead Oath in an exciting new phase of growth, building on the foundation Tim and his team have created," Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said in a statement." WHAT'S NOTABLE: This summer, Lowell McAdam stepped down as CEO of Verizon and was succeeded by Vestberg, the telecom company's chief technology officer and EVP and president of global networks. According to reports, by selecting Vestberg as CEO, Verizon's board signalled that it is continuing to focus on investments in wireless networks and technology, including building out a nationwide 5G broadband network, rather than media. PRICE ACTION: Verizon is fractionally lower in pre-market trading.

07:41 EDT Moleculin Biotech initiates trial of new cancer drug candidate WP1066 - Moleculin Biotech initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial of a new cancer drug candidate, a small molecule compound discovered by Waldemar Priebe at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and known as WP1066. The compound has been shown in animal models to both inhibit an important cell signaling protein STAT3 that is involved in cell growth and proliferation and considered critical to tumor development, while also stimulating an immune response. The first glioblastoma patient has received the initial doses of WP1066, which were apparently well tolerated, in the physician-sponsored investigational new drug, or IND, study at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Built from the chemical backbone of the active ingredient in propolis, a natural product of honey bees, WP1066 is the first anticancer agent with drug-like properties that consistently inhibits the activated form of STAT3 within cancer cells, a target that has been long-sought because of its broad range of tumor promoting effects. Importantly, activated STAT3 supports the survival and proliferation of tumor cells, evasion of the immune response and metastasis to distant organs, as well as angiogenesis essential for tumor growth. Activated STAT3 is not only connected with directly supporting tumor activity, but also suppressing the immune system, making this target even more important to cancer therapy. With the support of extensive preclinical studies demonstrating high antitumor activity and the critically important ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, WP1066 in this Phase 1 clinical trial will focus on treating aggressive brain tumors which all share a grim prognosis. The intent is to eventually treat up to 15 relapsed brain cancer patients over the next six to eight months. Phase 1 clinical trials typically focus on exploring safe and well tolerated doses, as well as evaluating initial signals of effectiveness. Each treatment is completed over three weeks.

07:35 EDT Incyte announces Phase 2b trial of ruxolitinib cream met primary endpoint - Incyte Corporation announced positive results from its randomized, dose-ranging, vehicle- and active-controlled Phase 2b study evaluating ruxolitinib cream in patients with atopic dermatitis who are candidates for topical therapy. The study, part of the True-AD clinical trial program, met its primary endpoint, demonstrating that ruxolitinib cream 1.5% administered twice daily significantly improved Eczema Area and Severity Index scores - a measurement of the extent and severity of AD - from baseline versus vehicle control at Week 4. Additionally, treatment with ruxolitinib cream 1.5% BID resulted in a rapid and sustained reduction in itch versus vehicle, a key secondary endpoint. These results were shared in an oral presentation today at the 27th European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology Congress in Paris, France. Key study results included: Significantly improved EASI score in the ruxolitinib cream 1.5% BID arm versus vehicle at Week 4, the primary endpoint, and improvement in EASI score versus the active control, triamcinolone 0.1% cream, at Week 4, a secondary endpoint. Significantly improved EASI scores in the ruxolitinib cream 1.5% BID arm versus vehicle at Weeks 2 and 8. Significantly greater changes in EASI score in the once daily ruxolitinib cream 1.5% and 0.5% arms versus vehicle at Week 4. Significantly more Investigator's Global Assessment responders - a measure of disease severity - in the ruxolitinib cream 1.5% BID arm versus vehicle at Week 4, and greater IGA response rates across other ruxolitinib arms versus vehicle. Rapid and sustained reductions in itch numerical rating scale score observed as early as within two days from the initiation of therapy, and a more pronounced reduction in itch with ruxolitinib cream 1.5% BID and QD than with triamcinolone cream 0.1% BID. Ruxolitinib cream was well-tolerated at all dosage strengths and was not associated with clinically-significant application site reactions. All treatment-related adverse events were Grade 1 or Grade 2 in severity. Ruxolitinib cream is the first JAK1/JAK2 inhibitor to exhibit positive results as a topical monotherapy in the AD patient population. Over-activity of the JAK signaling pathway has been shown to drive inflammation involved in the pathogenesis of AD. These data support the planned initiation of a global, pivotal Phase 3 program, for which preparations are already underway.

06:00 EDT Facebook's Zuckerberg says 'better prepared' to fight election interference - Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a blog post: "My focus in 2018 has been addressing the most important issues facing Facebook -- including defending against election interference, better protecting our community from abuse, and making sure people have more control of their information. These are incredibly complex and important problems, and this has been an intense year. I am bringing the same focus and rigor to addressing these issues that I've brought to previous product challenges like shifting our services to mobile." He added: "In 2016, our election security efforts prepared us for traditional cyberattacks like phishing, malware, and hacking. We identified those and notified the government and those affected. What we didn't expect were foreign actors launching coordinated information operations with networks of fake accounts spreading division and misinformation. Today, Facebook is better prepared for these kinds of attacks. We've identified and removed fake accounts ahead of elections in France, Germany, Alabama, Mexico, and Brazil. We've found and taken down foreign influence campaigns from Russia and Iran attempting to interfere in the US, UK, Middle East, and elsewhere -- as well as groups in Mexico and Brazil that have been active in their own country. We've attacked the economic incentives to spread misinformation. We've worked more closely with governments -- including in Germany, the US and Mexico -- to improve security during elections. And we've set a new standard for transparency in the advertising industry -- so advertisers are accountable for the ads they run. Security experts call this "defense in depth" because no one tactic is going to prevent all of the abuse. While we've made steady progress, we face sophisticated, well-funded adversaries. They won't give up, an they will keep evolving. We need to constantly improve and stay one step ahead. This will take continued, heavy investment in security on our part, as well as close cooperation with governments, the tech industry, and security experts since no one institution can solve this on their own." Additionally, Zuckerberg said: "One of our most important efforts is finding and removing fake accounts. We've found that fake accounts are the source of much of the abuse of our services, including during elections... Fake accounts are one of the primary vehicles for spreading misinformation -- especially politically-motivated misinformation and propaganda." Reference Link
