The company's Montney asset plays an integral part in this plan and will contribute significant high-value condensate, non-GAAP cash flow and margin growth. Across Encana's condensate-rich areas of the Montney, the company's latest completion designs are delivering 60-day initial production rates of between 500 bbls/d to 1,200 bbls/d of condensate. Beginning in 4Q17 and continuing into 2018, new midstream infrastructure and downstream capacity is expected to unlock significant cash flow growth... 18:28 EDT Aurora co-founder says Tesla withdraws lawsuit - Former Tesla Autopilot lead and Aurora co-founder Sterling Anderson announced in a blog post: "Delivering on a lofty vision is hard; in late January 2017 it got harder. Tesla filed a meritless lawsuit against us, supported by an aggressive public relations effort. Disappointed, but determined to defend our integrity, we immediately commissioned a comprehensive forensics audit that proved what we already knew to be true: No material Tesla confidential information exists on our personal computers or company systems, and there is no evidence that anyone at Aurora has used or has access to Tesla confidential information. Today, less than three months after filing - and even before we were permitted to file a response - Tesla has withdrawn its claims, without damages, without attorney's fees, and without any finding of wrongdoing. We have even agreed to reimburse the cost of a future audit to demonstrate the integrity of Aurora's intellectual property. In spite of this distraction, we've made great progress this last few months and are excited to now focus all of our energy on making transportation safer and better for all." Reference Link

18:06 EDT Suncor provides update on return to service plan for Syncrude Mildred Lake - Suncor today provided an update on the Syncrude Mildred Lake Oil Sands facility following the March 14 incident. Syncrude has developed a repair schedule and return to service plan that includes the completion of a planned turnaround which Syncrude advanced in order to minimize the impact of the outage. The plant is currently operating at reduced rates and Suncor will continue to assist in inventory management. The investigation and inspection show that damage was largely isolated to a piperack adjacent to the hydrotreater. An accelerated repair schedule has been developed to achieve restart of pipeline shipments at approximately 50% capacity in early May and production is expected to return to full rates by the end of June. Suncor does not expect this outage to result in a change to overall production guidance for 2017 as strong production from oil sands and offshore operations is expected to offset the impact.

On Q3, the guidance, as we mentioned, includes sort of a variety of possible assumptions on what may play out in terms of what gets paid to us by the contract manufacturers for Q3. I would say the high end of the guidance would be reflective of us getting paid in full, but we've got some other scenarios that are reflected in the range. The agreement itself with Apple, which is where we have the dispute of what is owed to them, expired at the end of 2016, so has really no relevance or impact to what the contract manufacturers would owe us for sales during the March quarter, which is the guidance we provided for Q3," Qualcomm (QCOM) said.

17:53 EDT U.S. Steel falls as recovery in energy sector falters - Shares of U.S. Steel (X) closed lower, along with the price of crude oil. With U.S. Steel's prospects so closely tied to crude prices, shares of the steel maker fell with the drop in crude, after stockpiles dropped less than expected in the latest week. U.S. oil prices almost 4% percent Wednesday with an intraday low of $50.28 per barrel. JOINED AT THE HIP WITH CRUDE: The rate of oil and gas production in the U.S.is closely aligned with U.S. Steel's Tubular Products sales. The Tubular Products unit produces and sells seamless and electric resistance welded steel casing and tubing known in the industry as, oil country tubular goods or OCTG. the company also provides OCTG rig site services.TUBULAR OUTLOOK: With its Q4 earnings report back in January, the company said it sees results for its Flat-Rolled, European, and Tubular segments to be higher than 2016. On its Q4 earnings call, the CEO of U.S Steel commented on the segment: "I would start by saying, we believe we hit bottom for sure in that particular segment. What has been inspiring I would say, is the fact that if you go back to May, we were running about half the number of rigs that we're running right now. The tendency should be to continue to increase. From that perspective, we're going to be utilizing our assets much better." Following its Q4 results, BofA/Merrill upgraded U.S. Steel to Buy from Neutral. Analyst Timna Tanners raised her 2017 EBITDA estimate to $1.3B from $1.1B, versus consensus of $1.2B, at the time, to reflect improving Tubular ops results from rising U.S. rig count and rising oil country tubular good prices. The analyst said a recovery in Tubular is not incorporated in management guidance and cost pressures are now known, providing an attractive buying opportunity in U.S. Steel shares. FADING TRUMP TRADE: Recently shares of U.S steel, along with other steel-makers, lost their post-election mojo after President Trump's efforts to amend current health care legislation failed. Also contributing to the the slide in U.S Steel's stock price was the new presidents recent budget proposals hinted at cuts to the Department of Transportation's spending and Amtrak subsidy plans in addition to sluggish demand from China. On March 29, Cowen analyst Novid Rassouli sand the sentiment in steel stocks has deteriorated following the drop in oil prices, the non-repeal of ACA, and tightening Chinese credit. Rassouli said U.S. HRC prices may come under near-term pressure due to widening domestic versus international spreads and failing scrap prices, leading to additional downside in steel names. The analyst said U.S. Steel and AK Steel (AKS) are the most levered to HRC prices, ArcelorMittal (MT) could see additional downside if iron ore prices continue lower, and views Steel Dynamics (STLD) and Nucor (NUE) as defensive plays given lower fixed cost structures. BUY AMERICAN: On Tuesday, the White House published President Donald Trump's "Buy American and Hire American" executive order, which was also signed on Tuesday. The order directs the executive branch to buy American goods and products and hire American workers. The order adds that all agencies must "scrupulously monitor, enforce, and comply with Buy American Laws," and asks that any waivers to the rules "take appropriate account of whether a significant portion of the cost advantage of a foreign-sourced product is the result of the use of dumped steel, iron, or manufactured goods. PRICE ACTION: Shares of U.S Steel closed down over 1% to $28.42 per share.

17:27 EDT Qualcomm: Apple suppliers withheld $1B after 'interference' from iPhone maker - Qualcomm (QCOM) executives said, "In Q2, Apple (AAPL) interfered with the license agreements between Qualcomm and the Apple suppliers by actively inducing them to underpay the royalties they owed to Qualcomm for sales during the December quarter. Apple withheld payments to their suppliers for sales in the December quarter in an amount equal to what Apple claims Qualcomm owes to Apple under a separate cooperation agreement between the companies... Apple suppliers then underpaid royalties to Qualcomm in the same amount. In the aggregate, this amount is approximately $1B. Most of Apple's suppliers have already reported the royalties they owe to Qualcomm for sales to Apple during the March quarter and they are obligated to pay the full amount of those royalties to us. While we would expect Apple suppliers to pay the royalties they owe us under their license agreements, it is possible that Apple will continue to interfere with the Apple suppliers license agreements, leading those suppliers to breach their contracts with Qualcomm by underpaying some or all of what they owe us. We expect to have more visibility into this in the coming weeks. Given this uncertainty, our Q3 guidance assumes a range of possible payments from the Apple suppliers but does not reflect a scenario that Apple suppliers pay nothing to us for March quarter sales."

15:39 EDT Credit Suisse gets bullish on Coca-Cola with many M&A opportunities seen - In a research note this morning, Credit Suisse analyst Laurent Grandet upgraded Coca-Cola (KO) to Outperform, citing the arrival of incoming CEO James Quincey, who takes over next month, and the company's nearly complete refranchising. Further, the analyst sees several strategic M&A opportunities to bolster Coca-Cola's portfolio. COKE TO BE SUCCESSFUL AGAIN: Credit Suisse's Grandet upgraded Coca-Cola to Outperform from Neutral and raised his price target on the shares to $49 from $44. With incoming CEO James Quincey taking over on May 1, the analyst noted that the executive already revealed his desire to build a total beverage portfolio. Moreover, he pointed out that he has heard the phrase "total beverage company" a few times from Quincey and is encouraged by the more open approach to managing the company as an integrated beverages business, willing to go where the consumer wants with "new disruptive offerings." Additionally, now that the refranchising is nearly complete, Coca-Cola is on the path to defining its "new frontier," Grandet contended, adding that he thinks the company has "all the pieces in place to be successful again." The analyst believes Coca-Cola's key competitive advantages are the "strength and breadth of its global system," its dominance in the on-premise channel that can be leveraged to roll out new brands and explore new categories, and its significant balance sheet flexibility to invest in the business and fill the gaps in the current portfolio. M&A OPPORTUNITIES: Credit Suisse's Grandet also told investors that he expects the new growth agenda will unlock revenue streams coming from existing regional winners such as Smartwater, Honest, Innocent, AdeS, and Georgia coffee. Moreover, the analyst noted that he sees several strategic M&A opportunities to bolster the portfolio and expand the global platform for future growth, potentially including AriZona, General Mills' (GIS) Yoplait, La Croix, which is distributed by a subsidiary of National Beverage (FIZZ), and Monster Beverage (MNST). WHAT'S NOTABLE: Late last year, the beverage sector saw some consolidation. On November 22, Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS) announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire Bai Brands and its complete portfolio of high-growth premium antioxidant infused beverages for $1.7B in cash. PRICE ACTION: In afternoon trading, shares of Coca-Cola have dropped about 0.5% to $43.25.

13:33 EDT Finisar plunges after MKM reports 'surprisingly negative' checks - Shares of optical component maker Finisar (FNSR) have been weak since the open today after MKM Partners lowered estimates, pointing to its "surprisingly negative" channel checks. SURPRISING NEGATIVE: A recent look by MKM Partners revealed some "surprisingly negative" headwinds for the communications equipment maker, said MKM analyst Michael Genovese in a note out earlier. The analyst voiced concern on a number of fronts, "including China, for all products and 10G Datacom and Fibre Channel/SAN in the U.S. and Europe." Genovese sees fourth quarter demand in China weak due in part to lower demand from Huawei with weakness in product demand across the board, including WSS,10G Datacom and Telecom, and CFP2. According to the note, FiberHome and ZTE are also sluggish for Finisar. LOWER ESTIMATES AND PRICE TARGET: MKM Partners lowered fourth quarter estimates on the optical parts maker to 46c for earnings per share on revenue of $341M from the firm's prior view of EPS of 53c on revenue of $372M. With that MKN dropped its price target to $32 from $41. RAYMOND JAMES PUZZLED BY DECLINE: Raymond James analyst Simon Leopold said he has received "a lot of calls" on Finisar and that he is "puzzled" by the stock's selloff as well. Attempting to deduce reasons for the weakness, Leopold said he has heard talk that Huawei is cutting spending, but he thinks this was built into the company's guidance; he "suspects somebody is suggesting" Finisar's legacy business is very weak, but said this has been the case for a while; and "some are claiming" the QSFP28 has issues, but his checks find it is fine and Cisco (CSCO) is "buying as many as it can." Leopold keeps a Strong Buy rating on Finisar shares. DATACENTER DEMAND: Share prices in the optical parts group jumped last week after peer Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI) said it expects first quarter revenue to exceed guidance. "We delivered another strong quarter with our top and bottom-line results expected to exceed our guidance," said Dr. Thompson Lin, Applied Optoelectronics' founder, president and CEO, last week. "Our results were driven by continued robust demand for our market-leading datacenter products and solid execution. We are pleased with our momentum and look forward to sharing the additional details of our first quarter performance on our conference call in May." PRICE ACTION: Shares of Finisar are off earlier lows, but still down nearly 8% to $21.97 per share. PEERS LOWER: The entire optical group is under pressure in afternoon trading with Oclaro (OCLR), Lumentum (LITE) and NeoPhotonics (NPTN) lower by about 3% each and II-VI (IIVI) lower by 1%, while Viavi (VIAV) is trading close to unchanged.

PPG believes that AkzoNobel's new strategic plan will be more risky and create more uncertainty for AkzoNobel stakeholders including employees and pensioners, as Akzo's revised strategy would create two smaller, unproven companies and result in additional restructuring. PPG has a proven, demonstrated record of executing on strategic actions and driving performance and growth... The combined company will be much better positioned to take advantage of the opportunities in our markets and deliver superior shareholder returns. PPG's proposal would create more value, as it provides an immediate cash payout far in excess of AkzoNobel's special dividend and is supplemented with PPG shares... 10:50 EDT Analyst sees Wayfair as takeover target after Chewy.com acquisition - Following PetSmart's "pricey acquisition" of online pet supplies retailer Chewy.com yesterday for an estimated $3.35B, Wedbush analyst Seth Basham argued that Wayfair (W) could be the next takeover target in online commerce. Among the possible suitors, the analyst sees Wal-Mart (WMT) and Amazon.com (AMZN) among several others. PURE PLAY M&A POSITIVE FOR WAYFAIR: In a research note to investors this morning, Wedbush's Basham noted that PetSmart's acquisition of online pet supplies retailer Chewy.com could mark a turning point in hardlines specialty brick-and-mortar retailers' attitudes toward online pure plays. Retailers may be coming to the realization that the online pure plays are tough to beat competing head-on and investors may now be more willing to support major acquisitions to turn the tide, the analyst contended. Basham pointed out that while Wal-Mart may have started a trend of major online pure play acquisitions with its Jet.com deal last year, the Chewy acquisition by PetSmart seems to be an extension of that same trend. Further, he believes Wayfair is "one of the most ripe" acquisition targets, currently trading well below recent transaction multiples, and sees Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), Target (TGT), Wal-Mart, Home Depot (HD), Lowe's (LOW), Amazon.com and Steinhoff among potential acquirers of Wayfair. The analyst reiterated an Outperform rating on Wayfair's shares. READ-THROUGH TO HARDLINES: PetSmart's acquisition of online pet supplies retailer Chewy.com may have a limited direct read-through to other categories, but the increasing acceptance of online shopping means that no category is truly immune from this threat, Basham argued. The analyst pointed out that the "overhang" from this threat for AutoZone (AZO), O'Reilly Auto (ORLY) and Advance Auto Parts (AAP) in the auto parts retail category is unlikely to disappear. On the other hand, he pointed out that retailers who many have discarded as secular decliners may find support in reinventing themselves through major online acquisitions. WHAT'S NOTABLE: Late last year, Citron Research's Andrew Left disclosed that he holds a short view on Wayfair, as he believes shipping furniture is expensive. Left has contended that Wayfair "will never make a profit." PRICE ACTION: In morning trading, shares of Wayfair have gained over 1% to $44.48.

UNDERPERFORMANCE, NEAR-TERM CATALYSTS: Proofpoint's stock has risen just 2.9% since October 3, versus the Nasdaq's 10.4% increase since that time, according to DA Davidson analyst Jack Andrews. Meanwhile, enterprises are looking for additional security solutions that they can use in conjunction with Microsoft's (MSFT) Office 365 as they transition to that product, wrote Andrews. Proofpoint is also benefiting from selling its products to McAfee customers, Andrews stated. Moreover, Proofpoint's products are now seen as "imperative" because they address "email and social engineering threats," which are seen as today's biggest security challenges, Andrews reported. OUTLOOK: Proofpoint's accelerating free cash flow growth will enable it to attract the many software investors who are more focused on that metric, Andrews stated. He predicted that the company would report slightly higher than expected first quarter revenue and in-line Q1 EPS. TARGET: Andrews raised his price target on the shares to $90 from $83. 08:40 EDT Morgan Stanley CEO says 'hard to imagine' regulatory burden increasing further - Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman stated on the bank's Q1 earnings call that it is "too early to predict" how the "political and geopolitical uncertainties that exist on the domestic front as well as abroad" will impact markets during the rest of the year, adding that the bank will "remain nimble should the macro environment change materially." Gorman also called out two "notable policy areas that could meaningfully affect [Morgan Stanley] in a positive way in the next several years" - namely, the potential for reduction of the domestic corporate tax rate and prospective regulatory changes. "At the very least, it is hard to imagine the regulatory burden increasing from this point forward, and some of the policy proposals being floated make good common sense. Given Morgan Stanley's very strong capital and liquidity position, potential modifications could substantially impact us over the coming years, Gorman stated. He also noted that Morgan Stanley, along with its peers, recently submitted capital plans for the 2017 CCAR cycle, stating that "strong capital return remains a critical element to our future success."

08:39 EDT Genuine Parts CEO: Q1 sales strongest quarterly growth since 4Q14 - Paul Donahue, President and CEO, commented, "We are pleased that our total sales increase in the first quarter of 2017 represents positive sequential sales improvement and is our strongest quarterly growth since the fourth quarter of 2014. As a diversified global distributor, we benefited from strong total sales growth in our international automotive, industrial, electrical and office operations. The strength in these areas was partially offset by the headwinds in our U.S. automotive business, which we are working to overcome." Donahue concluded, "It is encouraging that our overall growth was driven by sales increases across all four of our businesses, with positive comparable sales in all but one segment. Our teams have worked hard to position the Company for stronger growth and remain focused on key sales and cost initiatives to build on our first quarter performance as we move forward in the year. We are excited by the future growth prospects across our broad platform, and will continue to support this growth with a strong balance sheet, solid cash flows and effective capital allocation intended to maximize shareholder value."

In the letter, the company states, "You have a choice between supporting Cypress' current Board of Directors, which is driving Cypress forward, or allowing T.J. Rodgers - a disgruntled former CEO who was forced to resign from Cypress last year - to regain influence by putting his two handpicked nominees on the Board (...) Moving Cypress forward required replacing its former CEO, who had become ineffective and offered no clear strategic direction for the company (...) In the beginning of 2016, Cypress was a stagnant, founder-led company. During this time, Cypress' stock price was meaningfully underperforming compared to the industry (...) Cypress' stock price had declined by approximately 50% between 1Q15, when the Spansion merger closed, and 1Q16 (...) After careful consideration, the Cypress Board asked Rodgers to resign as Cypress as CEO in April 2016 and as a Director in August 2016. Disgruntled with that outcome, Rodgers declared war on the Cypress Board and has launched a proxy campaign motivated by a personal vendetta, rather than what is in the best interests of all Cypress stockholders (...) Cypress' gross margin expansion and stock-price performance have both improved significantly since Rodgers stepped down as CEO, and they've accelerated further with Hassane El-Khoury as CEO and Ray Bingham as Executive Chairman (...) In an attempt to regain influence of your company and Board, Rodgers has undertaken a series of disingenuous tactics to manipulate stockholders (...)".

07:52 EDT Abbott reports Q1 Worldwide Medical Devices sales increased 4.5% - Worldwide Medical Devices sales increased 100.2 percent on a reported basis in the first quarter. On a comparable operational basis, sales increased 4.5 percent. Refer to the final table for a reconciliation of comparable historical revenue. Worldwide sales of Cardiovascular and Neuromodulation products increased 207.0 percent on a reported basis in the first quarter. On a comparable operational basis, sales increased 2.4 percent. Sales growth in the quarter was led by double-digit growth in Electrophysiology, Structural Heart, and Neuromodulation. In Electrophysiology, Abbott initiated the U.S. launch of its Ensite Precision cardiac mapping system in the first quarter. Growth in Structural Heart was driven by continued double-digit growth of MitraClip, Abbott's market-leading device for the treatment of mitral regurgitation, and continued international uptake of Abbott's Portico device used in treating aortic valve disease and Amplatzer Amulet used to reduce the risk of stroke by preventing clotting in the left atrial appendage of the heart. In Neuromodulation, strong double-digit growth on a comparable basis was led by several recently launched products for the treatment of chronic pain and movement disorders. As expected, Rhythm Management sales in the U.S. were impacted by continued competitive dynamics in the MRI-conditional category of products. In the quarter, Abbott received FDA approval for MRI-conditional labeling for its Assurity MRI pacemaker and Tendril MRI pacing lead and submitted for FDA approval of MRI-conditional labeling for its Ellipse implantable cardioverter defibrillator system, which includes the Tendril MRI pacing lead, and the Durata and Optisure defibrillation leads. Worldwide Diabetes Care sales increased 20.2 percent on a reported basis in the first quarter, including an unfavorable 2.7 percent effect of foreign exchange, and increased 22.9 percent on an operational basis. Strong double-digit international sales growth was led by continued consumer uptake of FreeStyle Libre, Abbott's revolutionary continuous glucose monitoring system. In February, at the Advanced Technologies and Treatments for Diabetes conference, Abbott presented real-world data from more than 50,000 Libre users in Europe. The data demonstrated that FreeStyle Libre users checked their glucose levels an average of 16.3 times per day, more than 3 times the minimum guidelines for traditional finger stick testing. The data also showed that a higher frequency of testing was associated with better diabetes outcomes, including improved glucose levels and a reduction in hypoglycemia.

On March 31, 2017, Amedica filed a Form 12b-25, Notification of Late Filing, with the SEC regarding its delayed Form 10-K. At that time, Amedica expected that it would be able to file the Form 10-K within the 15-day extension period provided by Form 12b-25. Amedica has subsequently determined that the company will be unable to do so. The company requires additional time to fully consider whether there is any potential impairment in relation to certain of its long-lived assets. Management and the Audit Committee of the company's board are continuing to work diligently to complete its Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2016 and file it with the SEC as soon as possible. Because the filing of the company's Form 10-K has been delayed beyond the 15-day extension period of Form 12b-25, on April 18, 2017, Amedica received a written notice from the Listing Qualifications Department of The Nasdaq Stock Market indicating that the company is not in compliance with Listing Rule 5250(c)(1) because the company has failed to file its Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2016. Under the NASDAQ Listing Rules, the company has 60 days from the receipt of the letter to submit a plan to NASDAQ as to how it plans to regain compliance with NASDAQ's continued listing requirements. If the company is still unable to file its Form 10-K by that time, then the company intends to submit a compliance plan on or prior to that date. If NASDAQ accepts the company's plan, NASDAQ can grant an exception of up to 180 calendar days from the filing's due date, or until September 27, 2017, to regain compliance. The company may regain compliance at any time during this 180-day period upon filing with the SEC its Form 10-K, as well as all subsequent required periodic financial reports that are due within that period. If NASDAQ does not accept the company's plan, Amedica will have the opportunity to appeal that decision to a NASDAQ Hearings Panel. The NASDAQ notification letter has no immediate effect on the listing of Amedica's common stock on the NASDAQ Capital Market.

The Arctic deposit is a high-grade copper-zinc-lead volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit which also contains significant amounts of precious metals. 07:03 EDT Synthetic Biologics: Data shows SYN-005 provides protection from pertussis - Synthetic Biologics announced positive data for SYN-005, the company's orphan drug program for the prevention and treatment of pertussis (whooping cough). SYN-005 combines two highly synergistic humanized monoclonal antibodies (hu1B7 and hu11E6) to target and potentially inactivate the life-threatening pertussis toxin that causes disease symptoms. To assess the potential of SYN-005 to prevent pertussis, a non-human primate study was designed to determine if administration of hu1B7, one component of SYN-005, at two days of age could protect animals from a subsequent pertussis infection. Control animals (n=6), infected with Bordetella pertussis (B. pertussis) at five weeks of age, demonstrated marked elevations in white blood cell counts and most exhibited behavioral signs of pertussis, including coughing and diminished activity. In contrast, the experimental animals (n=7), who were treated with hu1B7 at two days of age and then infected five weeks later, had significantly lower peak white blood cell counts (p=0.004) that remained within the normal range or were only slightly elevated. Importantly, all seven of the animals that received prophylactic hu1B7 appeared healthy and none exhibited any behavioral signs of pertussis. An additional animal received hu1B7 at two days of age; however, infection with B. pertussis was delayed to a time point when hu1B7 was no longer detectable in the blood. As expected, in the absence of hu1B7, the animal developed a high white blood cell count and behavioral signs of pertussis. These data further support that protection from pertussis was, in fact, due to hu1B7. Building on this early success, the Company has initiated preclinical testing of a modified version of hu1B7 that has the potential to extend the plasma half-life and substantially reduce the required dose of SYN-005. The Company previously reported that SYN-005 was highly efficacious as a therapeutic in non-human primates infected with B. pertussis. The current study expands the potential clinical utility beyond therapy to also include prophylaxis. "We are greatly encouraged by these results, which clearly demonstrate hu1B7, a humanized anti-pertussis toxin monoclonal antibody, protected neonatal primates from developing pertussis for at least five weeks," said Dr. Jennifer Maynard. "These data give us increased confidence that pertussis prophylaxis using hu1B7 may be a viable option to protect newborns for several months after birth when the risk of pertussis mortality is highest."

07:02 EDT Novocure announces four presentations at AAN annual meeting - Novocure announced that four abstracts focusing on Tumor Treating Fields will be presented at the upcoming 69th American Academy of Neurology annual meeting on April 22-28. All four abstracts were submitted by external researchers. Among the highlights is a presentation on the overall survival benefits of TTFields in combination with triplet combination chemotherapy for recurrent glioblastoma. Forty-six patients at The University of Texas Health Center in Houston were identified who received Optune, Novocure's TTFields delivery system, at initial diagnosis or at recurrence from 2010 to 2016. At recurrence, 21 patients received Optune with a triplet combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of temozolomide, bevacizumab, and irinotecan and 25 patients received Optune with bevacizumab alone, bevacizumab plus irinotecan, or bevacizumab plus temozolomide. The median overall survival for patients receiving the combination of Optune plus triplet combination chemotherapy was 32.8 months and the median overall survival for patients receiving Optune plus the alternative chemotherapy regimen was 16.5 months, demonstrating a superior overall survival benefit when Optune was combined with triplet combination chemotherapy at recurrence. The side effect profiles for both patient populations was similar. "We have seen in post-hoc analyses of our EF-14 phase 3 pivotal clinical trial data that GBM patients continued to benefit from treatment with Optune even after their disease recurred. Dr. Zhu's research on the optimal combination chemotherapy regimen further strengthens our understanding on how to combine Optune with other cancer treatments to improve patient outcomes in GBM," said Dr. Eilon Kirson, Novocure's Chief Science Officer and Head of R&D.

06:35 EDT Vical completes target enrollment in Phase 2 HSV-2 vaccine trial - Vical has completed the target enrollment of 225 subjects in a Phase 2 trial of its therapeutic bivalent vaccine for herpes simplex virus type 2, the leading cause of recurrent genital herpes. The trial is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the vaccine in healthy adults aged 18 to 50 years with symptomatic genital HSV-2 infection and is being conducted at 15 U.S. clinical sites. The study is powered to show a reduction in annualized lesion recurrence rate, an endpoint which is clinically meaningful in this chronic disease setting because it provides information on the number of recurrences over time. The company anticipates release of top-line efficacy results during 2Q18. HSV-2 is a sexually transmitted virus that causes a persistent infection that can result in painful genital lesions, as well as intermittent virus shedding placing sexual partners at risk of infection. Infection with HSV-2 also significantly increases the risk of acquiring the HIV-1 virus from HIV-infected sexual partners. There is no FDA approved vaccine for HSV-2.
